Why dont I get 4 speaker output in winamp?

I have onboard 6.1(Epox 8k3a+) and the sound manager is set to 4 speakers and the speaker test runs good in 4.1 but winamp only plays in 2.1.

Any ideas?

Winamp doesn't support surround sound. It only plays stereo sources. You need the sound card to create some sort of surround sound.

My Santa Cruz outputs the left and right stereo channels to both front and rear speakers in WinAmp.

nevermind just d/led winamp 3 and it works perfect. Winamp 2 used less memory and loaded faster but if its not gonna function right I'd rather use winamp3.

If you just choose not to install the "Library" stuff in then you'll save alot of memory (and alot more if you don't install the Video playback crap). BTW were you using Winamp 2.91 ?

I have an Audigy2 and I use Winamp 2.91... and it works on all 4 speakers when I have it set to 4 speaker mode and with CMSS enabled. Without CMSS, only the two front speakers work

I use Winamp 2.81 and works on my 4 speakers. I don't even know what CMSS is.

It's called virtual matrix, there are no MP3's in 5.1, your soundcard replicates the sound to 4 or 5 speaker setups, if you want true 5.1 music look for DVD audio or SACD(SACD only for home theaters though).

eww, i hate all the crap they put into winamp 3.

my winamp 2.81 works on all four speakers also.

I never said it was 5.1 audio. I just said it output the left channel to both left speakers, the right channel to both right speakers, when playing a stereo source.
