Why don't cops pull you over for doing 5-10 over?

They stand to make money for their cities/towns and meet their quotas. Why don't they? Is it because people would stop speeding completely if they ticket for such low numbers?

They would have to pull over EVERYBODY. Plus, it's really only the people travelling way above (or below) the pace of traffic that cause the accidents.

Maybe 5+ mph is within the margin of error? I know a few people that got a ticket for 10 over... but then their little fart cans probably drew the attention.

well for 5 its because of speedomter calibration. Because you speedometer could be off by couple of miles per hour they will let u go whille going 5 mph over speed limit. For 10 it all depends some cops will pull you over seems alot of times 8mph over speed limit is the magic number of not getting pulled over.

yeah they usually keep a +5mph for margin of error. Anything over that and they know you are speeding.

9 over is the magic number at least on 65mph interstates. Though on the Taconic (New York) where the speed limit is 55 you can get away with 69 mph and not get ticketed.
Not really sure on other roads.

that and tire pressure can throw off the speed limit......like if you ever notice driving buy one of those "your speed limit is sign"....alot of the time the sign is not RIGHT on your speed its a couple above or below what your speedo says

plus ive heard that most radar guns have a 5-10% error rate .....

If the Spedometer is off, it is your own fault. They can and do ticket people for 1 mph over. Usually of you are an ass. One of the guys in the driving school I went to got a ticket for 2 over in a 45.

Of course, traffic on 290/53 and the Elgin-Ohare is usually moving between 85 and 90 sometimes up to 100ish in the far right, which is where I usually am.

Yup, 5-10 mph are within the margin of error for radar, but laser is more precise. Also, like previously said, no speedometer is perfect.

From what I've been hearing if you have the bad luck of being clocked by a MPH Bee III in pop mode, that error rate significantly goes up. The officers are supposed to verify the pop mode but can you really prove they did.
