Why Domestic's are better than Imports (my opinion)

Every (domestic) auto is better than any import because it contains features you just can't get on any import - Jobs, schools, crime prevention, roads, bridges, health care, social security, etc.

Yea, that would be great if I wanted to trade quality and pleasure for my nation.
But, really, I don't.
Nor do I want to keep paying to keep the poor machinery up and running, but of course that brings more money into the govt.
So mabey there is a reason they suck.

The sheet metal in my '95 Crapalier Z24 is like tin foil. Try again.

Not to mention the plastic on the interior feels like it could be made of melted down pop bottles... hard as a rock!

Here's to American cars built in Canada, Mexico, and contract manufactured in Korea. WOO HOO!!!! Funny how the Big 3 lobbied for stickers that said "North American Parts Content" and not "US Parts Content."

You think the electronic parts that say A/C Delco are from the US? Think again. The company I work for fabs them and they Franco-Italian.

<< and domestics are built like tanks imports look nice but they use flemsy metal. >>

Look at the Chevy cars - cheap bodies
Look at the Fords - cheap bodies but have their exceptions
Look at the Chryslers - cheap but again have their exceptions

There are actually certain number of Japanese cars that are made in the US. I believe some Hondas are constructed here.

Anyhow, there are a good number of American cars that are built in other countries, so I disagree with the statement concerning the benefits of American vs. imported cars.

Also, a good deal of my taxes (and the government LOVES to tax me) goes to the things you mentioned. Everytime I buy something - and I spend more on clothing, food, services than my car, it gets taxed which goes to the federal and local government.

Now, what you should be doing is bitching about Nike and how they have their overpriced shoes made in sweatshops in Indonesia. Those people get paid dirt for making shoes that cost a few dollars to make and then the company turns around and charges you 150$.

Somebody just decided to up and beat the damm horse to death again.

*sigh*

Drive whatever you like, but don't expect to get respect with a big wing and tip if they aren't backin up something bigger.

Lots of "American" cars are assembled in Canada and Mexico. Some like the Chevy (Geo) Prizm are just rebadged Corollas in a plant joint owned by GM and Toyota. The former Stealth was a 3000GT and the Talon was a Eclipse. Many cars like the Ford Focus and Cadillac Catera (Opel Omega) are Europeon designs that have be tweaked for the American market. Many econoboxes like the former Ford Aspire and Chevy Metro are just cars contract manufactured by companies like Daewoo. Many Ford Sportutes have a Mazda counterpart.

Many overseas companies have plants in the US including Honda, Mitsubishi, Toyota, BMW, Mercedes (Daimler).

The whole US/Import argument is a moot point since auto manufacturing is so international. Chrysler is now technically a German company while Ford owns Jaguar and has so much invested in Mazda that it can barely be called Japanese.

By your argument the whole concept of driving is "unamerican" because almost every single car runs on gasoline. Where does most of our oil come from? The Middle East, Africa, South America, etc.. REAL Americans drive cars powered by natural gas.

Well put my friend, well put 🙂

Winddoog, didn't your X5 got busted on the front right? you posted a link to it on an auction site selling for $22,000! lol 🙂

Nope, the ole X5 is just fine. I was browsing around when I saw the pic. My brother will be away for a week so you know what that means...... 🙂

<< because it contains features you just can't get on any import - Jobs, schools, crime prevention, roads, bridges, health care, social security, etc. >>

So the fact that BMW, Mercedes, Honda and Toyota have plants here in the states while Ford and Chevy have plants in Mexico and Canada means nothing? Sounds kind of hypocritical to me.

isn't the tax on imports more than domestic? that should help "Jobs, schools, crime prevention, roads, bridges, health care, social security, etc." better.

The Corolla, Camry, Takoma, Sequoia, Accord are all made in the US. The Chrysler cloud cars are made in Asutralia. The Ford Crown Vic is made in Canada. Mustang in Mexico. I could go on and on...

Toyota, Mazda(Ford), Nissan, Mitsubishi, Subaru-Isuzu, Mercedes-Benz, and BMW all have plants here in the US. In 1995, foreign car makers sold more U.S.-made automobiles in the United States than they imported. It is expected that sale of U.S.-built foreign cars in the United States will total 2.4 million and that 200,000 of these U.S.-made cars will be exported In 1996, these foreign-owned plants employed about 40,000 Americans and built more cars than Ford Motor Co. or Chrysler Corp.

There is no such thing as an American car company now anyways. Chrysler is German now, Ford has basically become a European company, and there are rumors of a takeover of the automotive devision of GM by Toyota.
