why doesn't the US change standard work week to 30 hours?

honestly 40 fvcking hours a week is too much. factor in lunch and a 9 hour work day is just depressing. we should be allowed to enjoy life instead of withering away in cubes.

how can we change this stupid tradition?

40 hours is to much? really?

i have never had a issue of enjoying life outside of working even more then 40 hours a week.

cuz we aren't babies like europe

Pfft, I been working double that for months

That's fine. To compensate us employers will just cut your pay and benefits since we now have to hire more people to get the same productivity. Considering that hiring an extra employer is not linear your pay/benefits will be cut more than you think would be commensurate with a 10/week reduction in productivity.

Do you still want to work only 30 hours per week?

1) 40 hours per week isn't a lot.
2) Not all of us are "withering away in cubes".
3) If you can't find time to "enjoy life" in a 40 hour work week, you're doing it wrong.

You haven't figured out ways to enjoy life while "at work" (though not necessarily "doing work")? Try drawing stick-figure sketches of ridiculous things that happen at work and posting them on FB. Just one of ten million ways to enjoy yourself in a non-work-related manner at work.

I don't know about you, but 40 hours of work still allows me plenty of time to watch porn and masturbate.

Can't remember last time i worked only 40 hours, did 55 last week and 50 the week before.

It's changing. Those that are salary are being pushed into 50 and 60 hour workweeks while those that are hourly are being cut to 30 (with many at ZERO) to help balance it all out. All is good....:awe:

i can't remember working fewer than 40 hours a week since graduating college . . other than my little time between jobs 🙁

What I hate is not the hours per week, but the way it's laid out. Why do we have to work all day every day? Why can't shift work be a standard? I would rather put in 12 hours a day for a couple days, then get more days off. I usually work 8:00-4:30 but occasionally 8:30-5:00. I hate working till 5:00. First off, everything is closed after 5, so I can't even do anything. For example, I need a haircut, I really should have got it last week but just never ended up getting it. This week I finish at 5, so I have to wait till next week. I don't know how people who work at 5 non stop manage to get anything done.

I have a new job that I will start eventually when my company decides to actually let me (same company, different job) and it will be shift work. I will be working 40 hours per week instead of our company's standard 37.5, but it will be shifts. I so can't wait. I will be able to get so much stuff done on my own time. Some people there were showing me some of their schedules, and it's not uncommon to get a full week off. Only downside is I could work Christmas and other holidays, but I will take that to know I can get weeks off all the time. Will be awesome!

I work 80-90 hours a week. Working is my life. Sometimes I wonder what life would be like outside of work.

When people don't work, they cause trouble, like those OWS and teabag assholes.

40 hours is fine. I generally won't work more than 40 hours except on rare occasions for project work, however. I gave that up a long time ago and have been happier and healthier since then.

I'll take as much free time as I can get. If bills get paid, I'll take a pay cut to have more free time. 40 hours isn't terrible, but 32 would be better.
