Why doesn't the Sony PSP have an analog stick?

The designers and engineers figured that would be the best way to get under your skin, so it went to production as such.

If you aren't aware, the PSP actually does have an analog stick.

It the black circle right below the 4-way pad.

Have you ever used it? I dont have any problems at all with the analog stick position. Sounds like you just want something to complain about.

Because they didn't make enough space for it.

They have circuits and stuff behind that area ans so couldn't make it work. It would have had to be thicker so they went against it.

480 x 320 (half VGA), 16-bit color backlit display (65,536 colors)

That isn't right for one.

VGA = 640x480!

Depends on how big your hands are. For myself, I don't hold the PSP in the palms of my hands, but rather support its weight in the first section of my index finger. This lets me use the analog stick just fine, as well as having the L and R buttons in easy reach.

For someone with shorter fingers, this might be a problem.

320 is half of 640.

Yes but half VGA means 320x240 and not 480x320. UNLESS they meant 320 is half of 640 ...but I have never seen it this way...funky stuff.

maybe they mean half the number of pixels

480 x 320 = 153600 * 2 = 307200
640 x 480 = 307200

But isnt the screen on the PSP not the same as a 4:3 tv or computer monitor which would be a res of 640x480?

Funky stuff.

I've looked at 320x240 as 'half vga' even though I know that it is 1/4 due to the 2 dimensions.

The PSP screen is 16:9 480x272

The picture of the Zodiac is very mis leading. It is 4:3 but it is streched out a tiny bit and or tilted at the angle to make it look 'widescreen' where it is 4:3.

Widescreen is the way to go imo.

I hope you are not yelling at me I was just making the point they are talking about res like the size of a tv screen which the PSP is not. I could care less I cant afford one anyway.

Either way, analog signals are usually a mess, so the resolution is still very good

I'd rather have 4:3 at 480x320 than 16:9 at 480x272!

I'd take the widescreen res personally. More natural for movies and games then 4:3 imo. But I'm in England and most of our tv shows are in widescreen.

i agree, i'd rather have the 16:9

of course, i have a 16:10 monitor, so i am biased to widescreen
