Marlin - Gov pay is at best equal to private sector jobs in that area, some higher but most just equal to at best. I have people turn down 100k jobs all the time as they make more in private.
For some jobs, yes, for others, not so, and for the rest, even less. However, when the whole package is looked at, working for the Fed is much better than working for the municipalities/private sector, generally speaking, which was the context of my first post.
Marlin - People in the Fed get laid off all the time.
Sure. But overall, when compared to the private sector, not as much, especially so for those fed workers with seniority.
Marlin - Health care cost for Fed employees goes up every year as well. In fact my wife has better health care where she works so her and my son are under her plan.
I'm not well informed enough to argue this point, but yes, from what I know, this would be the least attractive feature of many fed jobs, apart from those in senior positions, who, I beleive, have attractive health coverage plans.
Overall though, it's still my belief that fed employees are better taken care of than those from the private sector. A part of which has to do with the rules, regs and policies the Fed has to follow, which, I might add, is similar in many ways to what union organized shops have in place.
