Why Doesn't My PC Keep Websites Logged In?

Minor problem, but an annoying one. For some reason my pc will not keep me logged into any websites for long periods of time. I have checked windows settings and it appears that I should stay logged in, but in reality every website where I have checked 'keep user logged into this computer' still needs to be re-logged in from time to time. I am stumped. Thanks.

What browser are you using and what addons are installed? Also what security settings do you have set in your browser.

This is nothing to do with windows btw, it is your browser or 3rd party software.

Are you using a cleaner such as CCleaner, because you can check the settings to prevent that. I had that problem with Privezar.

I am running firefox. It is set to 'remember history' and 'remember passwords from sites'. I do have ccleaner installed but it is not set up to delete passwords. I am running mse for av, and don't see anything in the settings that impacts passwords. Thx.

The cookie that holds you log-in information will only last a certain amount of time dependent on the site, IIRC. The Firefox option to hold your information will still be there, but it only holds your login, it does not keep you logged in to that site.

Is there a way to stay logged into the sites? It is pretty annoying to have to re-log in all the time, which is basically what happens.

If the web site allows that, there will be an option on the login page that says something like "keep me logged in". If the site doesn't allow it, then no, all you can do is have the browser remember the login information and enter it automatically on the login page.

The problem is, even on websites that allow you to select 'keep me logged in', I get logged out. That is my conundrum.

You also need to check your security level settings under Internet Options. Staying logged in to a site does incur some degree of risk, and may not be allowed by higher settings.

sometimes the sites just force it. amazon is notorious for this. financial institutions too. its probably for your own good. the browsers should be able to cache your credentials though.

Thanks for all the comments. I guess I'll just have to live with logging into my sites all the time....The browser does remember credentials at least. I just had to re-log into this site for example.

BTW, staying logged in often depends on a cookie. If your system deletes cookies, it won't happen.

Are you talking about anandtech? I always have to log in every time I want to comment. The forums remember my stuff, but the main site doesnt. It's kind of retarded but what can you do?

I should have mentioned this earlier, but I am the opposite. I have created a habit of logging off every site I log into when leaving. I let Firefox remember my passwords, instead of letting sites keep me logged in.
