Why doesnt my mouse wheel work in Quake 3?

Topic says it all, I have a MS Explorer and the mouse wheel and everything else works perfectly in everything else i do, but the mouse wheel refuses to work in Quake 3.

are you sure you have wheelup and wheeldown actually bound to freelook or whatever in the config?

mouse down is bound already but every time i try to bind a key to mouse up/down it wont even bind them to that. I cant change a bind ot the mouse wheel and the 1 that is already set to mouse wheel down doesnt work.

what are you trying to bind to the wheel? weapon change?
