I had win2k professional installed and my cendyne cd writer was working f ine. I formatted my drive and installed win2k and winXP on my pc. But i noticed that my cdwriter no longer works. ON the device manager under dvd/cd drives it appears fine and so does my dvd drive(which works fine); it also appears under the bios as master and the dvd as slave which is how i have set up. Yet, it will not work anymore. Will not read cd's as a normal cdrom drive. Since i also have win2k installed, i tried it under that os and the same problem. It appears fine under device manager but doesnt read cd's. Any tips what could be wrong?

Sounds to me like your writer is going bad. Had the same problem with 2 Creative Labs 40x cd-rom drives. Sent the first one back for a replacement, and the replacement crapped out right after my warrantee ran out with the exact same problem. Hope yours is still under warrantee.
