Why doesn't liteon keep old firmware?

Are they stupid or what? Once you flash to the new firmware you can't go back since they deleted off their server and you can't find it anywhere on the internet.
I bought few liteon dvd rom model 16p96 that came with vs07 firmware, new firmware is vs09 and I can't go back. the new firmware has problems reading most dvd that has errors on it. I've tried extracting the other dvdrom with version 7 but it keep freezing up in dos with mtkflash 1.80.1
 
cdfreaks.com usually has links to old versions of firmware. And I think you don't have the correct model number in your post as I can find nothing like that.
