I don't think he plays that much video games, I mean a guy as wealthy as him has better things to do with his time.

Not to say that video gaming is for poor people I think it's one of the best hobbies for anybody making less than a million bucks a year but Lord Gabe makes like $10 mil a year at least I'm sure.

I read a report that early in steams life Microsoft called him in for a meeting. They made it sound like a collaboration to work on software together. Gabe was thinking excellent MS is ready to give me respect. The meeting turned out to be we want to buy your company for some dumb amount of money sign here and you're all set for life.
Gabe gave them the middle finger & left.

The story normally passed around the internet to show Gabe is Lord and Savior: EA approached Gabe to purchase Steam for around $1.5 billion and Gabe, like any hero would, told them to shove off. What you don't hear is that at the time of the offer, Steam had a valuation of about $3 billion. Altruist gamer lord my ass.

Hard to get kids hooked onto your franchise when its last installment is older than them. Don't ask me how a bunch of kids are worth $2B that's just what the analyst said.

If he lost weight, he'd cease to be the neckbeard hero, and without that, he's nothing but just another rich guy with one good idea and a bunch of stupid ones.

Regardless of the valuation, I doubt Gabe would ever want to give EA the reigns to his company. They could have offered him $5 billion, I suspect he wouldn't make a deal.

Not because he is some lord and savior and an altruistic businessman, but because he has a vision for Valve/Steam and wants the final say, and I suspect he knows very well that Valve and Steam will continue to grow exponentially with time.

1.5 billion, 5 billion

its all more money than you can (reasonably) spend anyways so what difference does it make?

i think it would be a different story if he turned down a billion dollar offer for something like $10 million.

I don't really see being rich having anything to do with losing weight. Sure he can pay for a trainer or even a personal chef, but losing weight is still hard. Maybe he's a stressed guy and gets stress relief from eating. Maybe he just doesn't care enough to put the work into fixing it. He's as human as any other overweight person.

Actually losing weight is fairly easy. With calorie restriction you can easily shed a few pounds a week.

With billions, you can do surgeries that will make it far faster than that:

lipsuction. having excess skin removed.

and guess what? He's not going to live 10 more years. if he does that'll be amazing.

and if he has some vision... he's not going to get to see it.

and there's a lot more he won't get to see. tech singularity. amazing AI and full immersion VR.

eating is not worth missing out on all that. it's short sighted for a guy who seems to have a long vision.

No it's inexcusable and the fact that he is human is no excuse.

best we can hope for is he rises from the dead not too long after to make hl3
