Why Doesn't Evolution Get Rid of Ugly People?

Why isn?t everyone beautiful, smart and healthy? Or, in a less-polite formulation, why haven?t ugly, stupid, unhealthy people been bred out of the population?ugly people because no one will have them as mates, meaning they don?t get the chance to pass their ugliness to the next generation; stupid people because they?re outgunned in the race to financial success (that is, acquiring resources needed to survive and reproduce); unhealthy people because they die before they get a chance to reproduce?

Ugly people still breed, usually with other ugly people. Thus creating a downward spiral of ever increasing ugliness.

Do two beautiful people necessarily create beautiful children? Do two ugly people necessarily create ugly children? (this is not a rhetorical question, i'm genuinely interested in the answer).

who's to say the world a long time ago wasn't filled with really super duper ugly people and today's ugly people would be the super models back then?

Because ugly isn't a determining factor on whether you survive and produce off spring. Does it help to be good looking, absolutely, but no where near as determining as a genetic disease or mutation such as the ability to say...withstand a higher level of nuclear radiation.

This is my thinking, and my inclination is no, they don't necessarily. Physical appearance is influenced by genotype (inheritance from parents), environment, and random chance (mutations, crossover).

people have sex for a multitude of other reasons beyond pure physical attraction (desperation, money, love, alcohol, etc, etc.)

Resources need to provide and reproduce: Food, Water, Penis, Vagina. If thats the case then evolution has done its job - there is no isolated class of humans surviving that have adapted to life without a penis and vagina, food or water.

For the same reason evolution doesn't get rid of homosexual. Evolution relies on mutation. It doesn't matter how advanced a species is, genome splicing will cause deviations that may or may not result in an ugly/homosexual/etc person, and that's not taking into account developmental differences in terms of nutrition, age of mother and so on. There will always be variety, whether a simple or advanced organism.

add to all of that that generally poorer people reproduce more. So families of higher income actually have less kids.

The perception of beauty differs, i like women with hips, butt and natural breasts but todays ideal seems to be anorexic with a boobjob so bad that it isn't even normal for a girl twice her size.

MrLee, i guess you included both vitamins, minerals, amino acids and fatty acids into "food", we don't really need normal reproduction to survive as a species anymore though.

OR homosexuality (assuming its genetic) is evolution's way of population control. There are frogs that will switch sexes if one sex starts to over power the other in order to provide balance. Maybe, homosexuality is a way to say that 'hey, your population is getting out of hand, time to control it!'.

**I hope that doesn't offend anyone on this forum who maybe homosexual.
