Why doesn't Catalyst have a built in FPS limiter?

Doesn't this only apply if you don't have tripple buffering? Ironic, someone here said it adds latency, yet in the AT article quoted states it helps with latency. [EDIT: Actually, I see now that is someone's interpretation of the article.]


From my own experience, I'm not a professional gamer, and I don't feel any lag with v-sync+Triple buffering On, but turning it off the tearing drives me batguano insane.

Triple buffering allows the frames to be rendered as they are needed, with no delay or latency, but because v-sync is on, there are fix time intervals those frames can be displayed. A 60hz monitor can only display frames in 16.7ms intervals. If you have smooth 45 FPS, those frames are being rendered at 22.2 ms a part. So the result is, some frames will have 16.7 ms between them and others will have 33.3 ms between them when displayed, but they were created with 22.2 ms intervals. This can be very uncomfortable to people, and is why adaptive v-sync was created.
