Why doesnt a preview of the article appear?

Most of the time when i copy/paste a link, the 1st couple of sentences of the link appears as a preview.

but not for the cnn article in that thread.
i added a 2nd link to the same article and it did do a preview.

What's the difference?

First off, the two links are entirely different.

But .... I've noticed that the opening post of a thread is often somehow different than following posts. Example, images posted become the user avatar for that thread.

Also, you posted the link first, before any text/comments. Could be part of it.

First off, the two links are entirely different.

Yes they are different.
Never the less, they are both links.

The 2nd has a preview and the 1st does not.
For both, all I did was copy paste.

So trying to figure out why the 1st link doesn't have a preview
