I use iCloud mail. It's really nice. Gmail isn't bad either but I had some issues with their customer service so gave them the finger.

I've done that, on my old phone it was horrible but that was 1.6. On 4.4-5 have not had any issues.

Do people actually use yahoo as their every day mail? I've only ever used that for throw away accounts.

throwaway accounts is all there is anymore isn't there? I don't have anything serious that comes over email. Any business I conduct STILL has to go through an account, but does it really matter what account that is?
I've been using the same 2 yahoo accounts since around 2003 with no issues.

Email is my primary communication tool. I have several accounts from several providers, including yahoo. My yahoo accounts are spam traps. My boss uses yahoo as bis primary account. It seems to work as well as any.

Agree. What was s great simple interface has been fucked up by that new CEOs mandate to "Googlize" it over old code.
You can still go back to the original Yahoo mail. Just click on the gear in the upper right and then click on settings. You'll get a new window. Under 'viewing mail' at the very bottom are 2 radio buttons. One is for 'full featured' which uses javascript. The other is 'basic' which completely 'manual' - in the sense that you have to select what you want to do, like sort, and then execute.

I was switching back and forth between them because for about a year or so, the so-called 'full-featured' version wouldn't let you sort by sender. How fucked up is that? Now it's finally been added although about a month ago, they had to suspend some of the features.

I like yahoo mail just because I can set up junk accounts based on a root character string. But that's a premium feature. Unfortunately, some sites still don't like hyphenated email addresses so for those, I use junk gmail accounts.

I have a couple dozen gmail accounts but it can be a pain in the ass for long correspondence from multiple parties. So I forward all of the gmail accts to yahoo.

Same here. I'm constantly emailing, maybe sending 50 a day and receiving 70 or 80.

A couple times a month I run into a redirect, which tells me that the Yahoo email service is not available and to try again later. Never see that with other email services. I don't get PO'd, only because it is free.
