Why does WinXP's search suck?

This is what I searched for: "*brown eye*.mp3"

Why am I getting .gif, cookies, .8bf, .ado, .mpg???

since u left a space in the search entry it will search for the words and omit extension results. also, try limiting the search to audio/video, etc.

well sometimes u wanna search a particular file, and I felt that the Win 98 had a more straight forward approach with their search

why does it do that? That's not what *brown eye*.mp3 is asking for....if I searched for it in DOS with that then it wouldn't bring all that crap up....at least not the real DOS that no longer exists in windows anymore =/

odin a space means you are searching for two words, regardless if thats the file type or not. it will bring up results for both words. again, try just 1 word and/or the search within a specific catagory.

Yes...I am searching for those two words (Brown and Eye), which both are in the name of the file with the extension of MP3. That is what I am searching for...why does it bring up stuff that isn't even CLOSE to that?

That's not what I want. I have tons of MP3's and I'm trying to find some stuff for this wedding presentation I'm doing and if I just search for one word I will have to pour through bunches of files to find what I want.

I figured it out...apparently I have to search for *brown?eye*.mp3

replace windows search with funduc's search and replace

one of the best programs i own.

edit: it doesn't actually replace windows search. it integrates seamlessly into your "shell" .. like when you right click on something, you can choose "search and replace"

it's lightweight and finds things that windows search cannot.

Well...I could find ANYTHING in DOS..but they have changed the operators a bit and now require the ? operator...which now that I know that I should be able to find anything as well.
