Why does Windows 98/ME crash if you start doing too many things at once?

98se wasn't as bad as windows ME. You had to use quality hardware though. If you used RAM that had even 1 defective block it would mess 98se really bad. I'm running a slimmed down version of 98se and it works just as good as my XP box almost. I only install 1990's era games on it though. No misc programs or anything.
