Why does Warcraft 3 performance suck on a eMac?!?!?

Such a disapointment! I got my Mom Warcraft 3 for my Sister's eMac (G4 700mhz, Geforce2 MX400 32megs DDR. 1gig of PC133) and it runs like total crap even with all the video settings set to the minimum. I moved out and she already has a copy for the main family machine (Duron 800, 256megs PC133, Geforce2 MX-200) which runs just fine with some of the settings scaled back. The minimun requirements for the game on a Mac is a 400mhz machine with a 16meg video card. I can't even imagine that being remotely playable. Has anyone else played Warcraft on a similar system to know what I mean?!?

In all honesty I've been less than impressed with the performance of the eMac but it really shouldn't be this slow with the systems stats.

Thanks for listening to my rant.

I suppose you can't expect a greater display of intelligence than that from a PC user. :/

Geforce 2 MX is too slow-
An eMac, iMac, or any of Apple's consumer machines won't push polygons of next gen games (though you do exceed the recommended requirements listed on the box).

It sucks on my iBook/700/384MB/Radeon-Mobility 16MB

I thought it would be better on a G4.... Too bad.

Must save money... Must steal from 7/11s... Must buy Dualie G4 Tower

weird tho cuz a freind installed it on a 500mhz pc, with 256mb ram and warcraft3 works just fine, its a tad choppy but still, it works and plays ok.

Ok, I'm glad to hear that it's not running any better on a 16mb Radeon Mobility. I was just hoping we'd be able to get some two player action going when I stop by but even with everything bumped back it just doesn't move smooth enough from the start, let alone with lots of units going at once.

The thing with the Geforce2MX being too slow isn't true. The family machine has a MX-200 with SDR ram which makes it the slowest Geforce2 MX possible and it easily runs the game with settings around the medium range at 640x480. The eMac can't even swing it with everything at minimum with a Geforce2 MX-400 with DDR ram.

I like Apple's machines and the hardware and design are truly amazing but the performance just isn't there. The machine is a Photoshop monster with a gig of ram and it's great for my sister and everything she uses it for but I guess I just expected more out of it.

WC3 works fine on my sister's PCI TNT (yes, the original one from 1998) card with moderate detail settings. Maybe Blizzard forgot to optimize for the Mac :p

hmm... weak machine... weak graphics card... pimp game... kinda doesn't add up... not to rag on your sisters mac... I'm sure it's great for writing papers and checking email (won't crash while you do)... but you (she) needs a better system (a game rig maybe, nothing too fancy) to play WC3... just saying... no offense...

Why don't you try it and see? Sure, it may not pump out 100 fps at 1600x1200 like a GF4 but a consistant 30fps at 800x600 is certainly not lagging "like a mofo."

how did u bench wc3 for the frames?
ive tried 800x600 on a gf3 ti 200 as well as on plenty of pc bang computers running gf2 mx's
try going up against mass casters....ull find u cant micro the units at all because of the lag.

Ya warcraft III runs like crap on my machine too
AMD Duron 1.2ghz
576MB SDRAM
32MB TNT2 Video Card
It doesn't lag when i have it on the lowest settings, but when there are mass troops then it lags like crazy.. I can't micro-manage. What should i do? get a better video card?
