Why does USPS' tracking have to *SUCH* so many balls at once?

It's not just because of the time of year, either. I had an item sent to me priority on the 6th. That evening it was updated by saying the item was accepted and " Information, if available, is updated every evening. Please check again later. ". And, here I am two days later and still no update at all. I have no doubt I"ll receive this before the status is even updated.

Fedex and UPS update their site all the time with status on an item, but USPS is living in the dark ages. It's quite annoying.

Well, they don't really update it until it's actually delivered.

Sometimes the problem is that people confuse tracking with delivery confirmation... which only updates when the package is delivered.

Also, I hear that the USPS version of tracking is mostly for their records, so if a package is lost it will tell them where to look.

As long as the package gets to me when it's supposed to, I could care less how they send it, really. Being able to see what state it is in at any given day is cool, but doesn't help me get it any faster, so oh well.
