Why does this 17" monitor do 2048x1536?

Ok, I posted about my VPR Matrix computer before, but after examining everything, I have a question..

This VPR Matrix 17" monitor does 1280x1024 at 85Hz and 1600x1200 at 75Hz, which seemed to be pretty odd to me because I've only seen 17" ones do 1280x1024 MAX at 60Hz. It even does 2048x1536, but only at 60Hz. Even the Viewsonic professional monitors don't do that.

Maybe someone can explain simply, it just seemed unusual for a consumer level monitor ($250 at BB after MIR) to go that high.
 
No, I can run that high by selecting it in the display properties. Tough to read, as everything is quite small, but the 60Hz doesn't even bother me as much as traditional CRTs (my viewsonic's 60Hz makes me sick/headache).

BTW: I'm doing 1280x1024 and love it🙂
 
Holy crap! :Q That's an insane spec for a 17".

It may not be a bad idea to crank it up to 1600x1200 and increase your default font sizes for higher dots per inch, although I'm not sure how much that would help you.
 
I've heard of monitors designed specifically for 2D graphics designers offering 2048x1536... but that's a relative niche market and generally special order.
Certainly never seen a mainstream consumer model supporting such resolutions.
Indeed, most seldom support even 1600x1200, and even then at 60Hz.
 
I'd love a monitor 17" or larger that can support AT LEAST 85Hz at 1280x1024 and 1600x1200. At 800x600, 75Hz is the lowest I can tolerate without seeing flicker. As the resolution increases, flicker seems to become easier to see - 85HZ at 1280x1024 produces a little flicker. My monitor can't do more than 60Hz at 1600x1200 - instant headache. Wish I could run games at that resolution though. 🙁

yes its makes sense to use 1600x1200 on a crt which can display by hardware just 1024 or est. 1100

sometimes its funny to read that pro tech crap here
