With the passage of a whole group of freedom restricting bills, the US government is becoming increasingly "police-like". Supposedly, there is a new law that orders ISPs to keep all emails on record ofr 90 days so the government can review them.
There have been many cases where the Federal government has recently restricted our freedoms. More than ever, I feel that corporations truely rule this country. Enron and Worldcom are just two "old world" examples of the worst of the worst (and most obvious). Im more concerned about the behind the scenes events. Microsoft and others are slowly planning to force us to pay every time we turn our computers on or make a phone call. (And now the government can pretty much tap all those conversations !)
Yet, at the same time, the government refuses to use racial profiling when it *might actually work* at places like airports. The government refuses to station police on borders. The government refuses to pay for a few damn bomb detectors or fork over for newer x-ray machines.
What is wrong with the US government these days?
I am NOT antigovernment. I am pretty much a "liberal" person. Ive even been accused of being pro-big government on this very forum. However, I am also starting to see the points my more right-wing fellow citizens have been making for years--this country is not on the right path, and the problems seem to originate with our government (and I would add corporations).
Moreover, I call upon people on this forum to realize that big business is not good for us any more than big government. Obviously, America is great partly because its centralized, but we also need to make sure that the rights of the individual are never destroyed.
In the 21st century, we need solutions that work. Thats why we have a democracy. Lets just pray that it isnt bought out by the likes of Enron. Then we are ALL screwed.
