why does the post office sell any stamp besides the Forever stamp?

usps created the forever stamp a while ago. now u no longer need to scramble for 1or 2 cent stamps when the rates go up.

yet $0.44 stamps are still being sold.
(my local supermarket only has .44 for some strange reason)
 
One reason is that >1 oz costs less than 0.44/oz.

Using 10 forever stamps for a 10 oz letter is paying too much. Everyone knows this.

some people like/care what the stamp looks like. The Forever Stamp will never change its image. Not that I care, because the Liberty Bell is, imho, awesome.

But honestly, theflyingpig hit the nail on the head here:
it's all about taking advantage of people who do not know better.

Also, I never see the Forever Stamp anywhere in those stamp vending machines.

It's for the old retired people who go to the Post Office because their family hates them and they have nobody else to talk to. They have to see every single available stamp before deciding which one they will buy to mail little Steven's birthday card with the $5 check in it.

Of course they never stop to realize that little Steven really doesn't care what kind of stamp is on it, he just wants the check to bundle with the rest of his birthday cash so he can buy the biggest bag of weed possible.
 
I understand the concept of the forever stamp, but don't understand the forever stamp, at least with regards to why there are other stamps.

Just like the OP says, if a company sells 2 products for the same price, one that will (almost certainly) need to be augmented with more money in the future, and one that never will... I don't understand why anyone (who knows about the forever stamp) would buy anything else. Or why the USPS would offer it.
 
people probably still have shitloads of old stamps around... why throw them out when you can just attach a couple 2-cent stamps to them?

because the Forever Stamp is ugly as hell.. and to be honest... i only buy a stamp when i need to mail something. Which is maybe... once or twice a year.

I do all my banking, bill payment, etc online.

Why buy 20 stamps that are gonna take me 40+ years to use.. when i could buy a stamp on the rare occasion i need one.

Might be sold out or limited printings.

By the way, I read somewhere that if you intend to stockpile on a ton of these forever stamps to resell at a later date, you will actually lose money.

Something about how the stamp prices can only go up due to inflation, so you would have been better off saving the money instead of spending it.

I like them for the convenience factor. In the off chance I ever use them, (mailing in rebates, random mailings, etc), it is nice to have a stamp I can just put on an envelope and throw it in the mail. I'm too lazy to go to the post office and this way I can continue to use one stamp instead of two.
