Why does Steve Job purposely lie at all his events?

This is nothing new and one of the biggest reasons why I hate Apple is because of Steve Jobs. He's the biggest douche of them all. Almost never tells the truth and has even told his own customers that they are dumb and don't know how to use their devices and he told them how to use them the correct way.

Actually, he's right there. 99% of people are cattle and have no fucking idea what they're doing.

lol the article is just a pointless rant.

I would say out of the author's complaints, the marketshare and misquote I agree with. The shipping in volume I semi agree with the author.

-Shipping in Volume doesn't make sense, but I assume Steve Jobs is referring to the millions of iPad2s it'll sell.

-The iPad2 is priced lower than the XOOM.

Overall, its nothing really to get irritated over.

I've actually never encountered someone with an iPad outside of a store selling them but I did share the building's WiFi password with a resident who wanted to get his new Android tablet online in the lobby this past December (I think it was a Christmas gift).

I see ~3-4 iPads /day in the hands of college students, but I've yet to see an Android tablet in the wild, aside from an ebook reader like the Nook Color.

San Jose, CA area has iPads running rampant. I see at least 2 every day without having to look really hard.

I've even seen a group of student at the library with 6-8 with textbooks and multiple note-taking apps on them.

Correct. The only time I ran into a Galaxy Tab was at Fry's Electronics. I've seen enough iPads around at the airport or even amongst techies.

It's just sad, because obviously this article was not written by someone well versed in the tech industry and the true ins and outs of every product but, in fact, someone only well versed in the given specs without any actual benchmark testing, side by side comparison, or other such testing done to back up the claim in this article. The numbers (10000GB of RAM or 100000MP) mean nothing when the OS can't even keep up with it's own processor. 3G on a $499 tablet doesn't mean squat when the service is spotty at best. Nor does a flimsy flash, when you could compare it to the light given off by a lit match... Apple doesn't build products before they can be perfected (for the current materials and means of production). They wait until they can deliver a gorgeous, unibody, thin, lightweight, product with all of those features before doing so. They aren't in the business of giving consumers a pile of junk before its time. (iPhone 4 is the first incident of its kind with Apple and, in my opinion, the incredible innovation that went into it's creation may have ultimately been a pain for iPhone 4 owners but opened the door to more amazing, problem-free, products in the near future).

You knock Apple for bending reality? Look in the mirror.

There is no product like the iPad. There is no product that can do EVERYTHING it can with the PERFORMANCE it has. Period.

Its kinda scary that people really think like this.

I see 1-3 a day in Los Angeles, our manufacturer reps are carrying them now. They love them, especially the companies with a strong online presence and online ordering. I see the rest in the cafeteria when people are on break.

Haven't seen a single Android tablet in the wild, except mine, and everyone calls it an iPad.

"in volume"

I have never seen any other tablet on the street besides the iPad.

I dont' even know what a xoom or tab looks like. A Dell streak 7? What is that?

I've never seen a Dell Streak in the wild. I know one guy who owns 2 Xooms, but he previously owned an iPad and got sick of being locked into the ecosystem. Never seen a Tab in the wild, either. But to be fair, I don't know that many people who own iPads, either. Maybe the iPad 2 with the cameras and whatnot will kickstart that. Most people I know prefer pocketable devices.

none of my friends know i have one. less likely it would come up missing or asked to borrow. lol not that i think they would do that, stepson's friends (teens) could be iffy, but the less anyone knows what i got, the better imo.

Who gets to define what 'volume' is? And besides that, he's going to start looking like a moron when Android Tablets start chipping away at the Ipads and overtakes their market share like the android phone did to the iphone... sooner or later.

Exactly. No one gets to define it except the person using it. He can say "in volume" and be perfectly 100% correct...as long as you're using his definition. And Samsung can say their tablet is shipping and selling "in volume" and be perfectly correct. It's marketing. That might be twisting the truth but that's not exactly the same as telling lies.

Ok. You go and crap on Jobs for essentially marketspeak and then you go ahead and use the same reasoning. Sure, Android has caught up and slightly surpassed Apple's market share. What you neglect to mention is the stellar growth of Apple's iOS devices. It just so happens that the growth of Android devices were astronomical. Doesn't mean iOS devices are doing bad. They're doing more than great in terms of sales growth. Attention participants, the double standards card is now in play.

The Samsung quote is inexcusable and I think we can all agree that was a low blow. Unfortunately the beauty of marketing means Jobs/Apple can say they didn't realize the quote was mistranslated.

As for pricing, surprisingly enough, the iPad isn't priced that bad. There are some very nicely priced Android devices like the Nook but even the Dell Streak is priced at $450 right now, not sure what the MSRP at release was but don't really care. And the Samsung Galaxy Tab wasn't exactly cheap when it debuted either. The difference is Apple has the mindshare and reputation to be able to market its products as a premium product with resulting premium price. Look at Sony and their Playstation 1 & 2 stranglehold. Look at how stuck up they were. The only problem with Sony was their PS3 was priced beyond premium and into ludicrous territory or Sony would still be dominating the games console market. Apple may have faltered here and there but they haven't committed a blunder on that level which is why they are still on top.

That whole blog article seemed like a rant about Apple and Jobs. The write had a bone to pick and he happened to blog for CNN.

He knows that it's what the Apple fanboys want. They love to hear that Apple is the greatest and that they didn't spend all that extra money just for the Apple logo. Apple is an elitist's product, plain and simple.

Bill Gates personally denied the XBOX project repeatedly right up until one month before it was officially announced.

Android took away the iphone's market share ?

When ?

In sales, there were more Android phones than iphones last year, I believe. Obviously, that's a lot of phones versus one (well, two I guess, since the 3GS is still being sold).

You could say that Android has reduced Apple's market share, but I don't know if Apple has sold fewer phones because of Android. If Android didn't exist, I don't think Apple would have shipped even an additional 10% of Android's numbers.

I think that at least some of the $4 billion they spent on partnerships or supply deals relates to manufacturing. If they want to be able to sell more than 40 million phones this year, they're going to need to ensure that there are no shortages for any of the components in their phone.

The reason there probably aren't many other 9.7" tablets is because Apple bought up almost all of the displays of that size. This list of upcomming Android tablets that were announced at CES shows only one tablet that will use a 9.7" screen, and that device is billed as an e-reader. This seems to indicate that there aren't a large enough remaining number of screens of that size for other manufacturers to build a device around them. If similar constraints exist for other components Apple uses for their products, I don't know if they would have been able to manufacture a substantial number more than they already have.

The iPhone did indeed lose market share last year. The problem is Apple haters never ever ever mention that Apple nearly doubled iPhone sales with growth that any company would envy. Looking at the chart below and one can see how well iPhones are doing.

iPhone+-+Revenue+Per+Unit.jpg

The reason that Apple's market share is shrinking is because of Android's growth which is much better than the growth of Apple's iPhone. Market share represents the share of the total market. The smart phone segment is a rapidly growing market and the two platforms growing the fastest is iOS and Android devices. Look at the chart from Nielson below to see a visual breakdown of the smart phone market as it stands currently. Apple actually had a larger percentage and Android smaller when compared to last year.

While Apple is doing more than excellent with its iPhones, Android phones as a whole are growing faster. So even though iPhone growth last year was astronomical, it still lost market share to Android.

This is where the double standard comment of mine comes in. Phokus's comments about Jobs looking like a moron when the iPad loses market share conveniently ignores the large possibility of the iPad repeating the success of the iPhone with great growth but still losing market share. Considering that the iPad 2 is almost guaranteed to at least do as well as the iPad 1 and that the tablet computer market is still in its infancy, we can see a scenario where Apple has fantastic growth and still lose market share much like what we saw with the Apple iPhone.

All companies stress their positives and gloss over negatives. In a media event like the iPad 2 announcement (or just about any Apple event), it's purely driven by marketing. You really can't blame them for the hype and being loose with facts. All companies do this. Every single one of them.

If someone wants to criticize Jobs/Apple for the marketspeak and BS, that's fine. You're entitled to your opinions. However, for the OP to label what Jobs said as lies is going a little overboard. Especially when the OP conveniently uses the same type of twisting things around to make Apple look bad by saying their products will lose market share while ignoring their huge success.

I know the samsung tab is on sale too. As far as I know they're all still sitting on best buy's shelves cuz I've never seen one out in the wild.

i can make that same argument for the ipad or any tablet as Ive never seen anyone using one. ive seen a few old people using a ereeders (nook or kindle) on a plane to read but thats it

Where have you been? Android took it over months ago.

I'm just really happy to see WebOS finally coming back in the game and I'm hoping they're actually good phones for once.

So if the iphone has no sales now, lost all it's market share to Android, why did Verizon want to carry it ?

Actually, he's right there. 99% of people are cattle and have no fucking idea what they're doing.

everyone's like that about something. Some are great with PC's and know nothing of cars. Some are great mechanics and have no clue what the best toaster oven is to buy.

it comes down to what you care/want to learn about. There are forums with geeks about gas grilles, work boots...yes i said geeks about work boots for gods sake.
do you know much about work boots? apparently i know less than i thought about them. lol did you know that Wolverine boots are mainstream, overpriced junk akin to what Apple is considered by some PC geeks? lol, kinda funny i thought, i assume the Apple "cattle" would chuckle at us the same way.

were all cattle to some product out there. we stand in line and buy the norm.

Yeah, their new hardware looked pretty good and they showed off some cool features, such as being able to transfer the web page between their phone and tablet just by touching them together.

Wish that they would have shipped a lot sooner though. If they would have come out right now they could have taken advantage of the general glut of new devices. The newest Android phones are just starting to trickle out, and there have been talks of delays on a few models. Apple won't have anything out until the end of June most likely.
