I love the small details in all 3, such as the name of the mall changing after Marty hits one of the "twin" trees while in the past. Robert Zemeckis did a great job with those films. One of the best triologies, IMO.

I see part 1 and 3 on all the time. (TBS and USA networks)
I love the series as a whole.

it was on last night on TBS.

i think the futuristic hypothesis is kind of cool. i wish real life were like that already. :)

imo though, 3 is played the least... with 1, of course, being the most frequently played movie.

I actually enjoyed part 3 and agree that part 2 was sub par. If I were to rate I'd say. Part 1=4/4 stars, Part 2=2/4 stars, Part 3=3/4 stars.

Now heres a question...
Marty goes into the past and everything he does effects the future...
Now marty goes into the past and helps his father hook up with his mom... Now this has to happen or else he wouldn't exist, so therefore shouldn't he know that the mission will be a success if he went to the past? Because if he didn't succeed there would be no marty from the future to go into the past .....

/austinpowers/ Oh dear god i've gone blind... /austinpowers//

Edit: realized it wasn't a question...

Future Marty will exist in the past no matter what, if his parents do not get together he will vanish at the time when he is supposed to be born. Think about the Back to the Future when the newspaper rewrites itself it is the same concept.

Think about it like this....
If you go back in time to kill your father before you are born, then how will the future you exist if you were never born?

I liked 3 the least. Too many pointless boring parts, especially the Jules Verne intellectual conversation.

Alright Im here. Back to the Future barely gets any play mainly because that story doesnt appeal to the masses. Although the hoverboard is simply amazing and they need to work on that. Unfortunately a good chunk of the rest of the story just kind of sucks. Personally I think it's the weakest of the trilogy.

The way it goes is if future Marty would have screwed up lets say, and Marty was never born, he'd simply just vanish. Id also assume he'd just vanish from people's memories (from the past) as if he never existed.

So in theory, you can't change the past to affect the future.... The future is already set.... Marty had to succeed in the past or else he wouldn't exist to come back from the future...
Right?

sorry, i'm, having a philosophical debate and he's caliming something else...

what I hate most about 2 and 3 is how Michael J. Fox plays all the other members of his family too. That is just totally f'ing stupid.

No, you can change the past to affect the future. This is shown in BTTF 3 with Clayton River (or maybe it was Ravine) being renamed to Eastwood. Marty going back in time was the reason that the parents might not get together in the original BTTF. He taught his dad to stand up for himself and because of that, Biff was one of George McFly's workers in present tense. Marty's brother also became successful because of it. They were also wealthier since George sold a ton of books. Basically, since he succeeded and the events didnt happen the original way, it caused an alternate reality.

In BTTF 3 Doc says the future is unwritten and its what you make of it.
