Why does NT not keep my View settings?

I have this problem under NT4sp6 where it won't keep my window settings. ie: I almost always set all my windows to View By List, but seemingly randomly WinNT will just decide to change it back to Large Icons.

How can I force it to save my view preferences?

I know I'm reserecting this from the darkest corners of anandtech.

But does anyone have any ideas on this problem?
