such a gigantic pain in the ass to clean up after and dispose of :frown:

I think all shipping companies should just use those air pouches or do what amazon does and glue/shrinkwrap stuff to the bottom of the box so it can't bounce around.

I hate air pouches. They tend to deflate, aren't as form fitting, and aren't good to reuse.

I reuse packing peanuts I get all the time.

because they're delicious. :D

but seriously, I prefer the air pouches or the expanding foam stuff.

EDIT: We tend to pop all the air pouches that arrive here at work. I haven't seen many that arrive deflated though.

Gluing stuff to the bottom of the box would be a bad idea when you are shipping potentially shock prone items.

You have to admit that bubble wrap is pretty fun, though.

Packing peanuts suck. Wadded up newspaper works better than peanuts do.

This is very true. Few things are more satisfying than popping bubble wrap. :p

Think of the minimum wage drones doing the actual packing. They are unlikely to consistently and properly glue anything to anything else, nor do they usually put those air pouches UNDER your precious cargo, or even on top if there's not enough room left, leaving your precious and delicate crystal unicorn topped hard drive to the evil ravages of the UPS oafs.

Peanuts! If your not packing the p's, you suck worse than a eunuch at a nude speed dating affair.

packing peanuts is fine... but the way they pack their hard drives is unacceptable.

You don't like pulling your new thumb drive out of the huge box, and getting peanuts all over the floor?

I've read a lot of complaints about how Newegg packages hard drives but I've bought about a dozen single disks from them in the last few months; they've all come thoroughly bubble wrapped & packed with either crumpled paper or peanuts & I don't see what the fuss is about...?

BTW, if you buy a lot of stuff online that comes with packing peanuts, save them up & fill a garbage bag with them. You can usually get $5 or so for a 13 gallon bag on Craigslist from small volume eBay sellers since peanuts are a total ripoff at office supply stores. Kind of a PITA but it definitely beats sending them to the landfill.

This has been my experience with Newegg's packing.....put the item in the box (motherboard, cpu, hard drive, doesn't matter what) THEN pour packing peanuts over them until somewhat full.

Unfortunately, this leaves the items being packed lying on the bottom, just begging to be hit without padding when the box is thrown, dropped, etc.

And, if the box isn't tightly packed, the peanuts will settle down leaving items, even if packed in the center of a peanut-filled box, to drift around the box, essentially unsecured.

It's hard enough resisting eating packing peanuts, you think people will find the strength to resist nibbling on packing waffles? I sure as hell won't.

I no longer buy HDD's from NewEgg for this reason.

That, and I live 4 miles away from a TigerDirect warehouse/store, so I usually just go pick stuff up there even though it's usually more expensive.

That's what's going to make me a bajillionaire... if only the patent office would approve of my application. :(

I see this as a win win

Yup, they use peanut guns. The Newegg warehouses are like fantasy lands ffor tech/gadget geeks.

I imagine that one day the founder of Newegg giving away golden tickets, and me being a poor college student I get one and end up going there and inheriting Newegg.

One can dream...

I've only been unhappy with neweggs packaging once, on my last order. Only item was a super talent pico flash drive. The whole item thickness was about 5 business cards and it was stuck on the bottom between the two exterior folded down parts! (theres probably a better term to describe it but w/e)

It would have been very easy for me to assume they shipped me an empty box (it was not visible at all) or for it to have slipped out of the box!
