With some companies, double boxing is pointless. Take Dell for example - if they know they have to ship out these products, they might as well just package them once properly rather than a decent job once and then boxing everything again. Not much of a point other than it's not always bad to ship in the original box if it was designed for that purpose.

I don't know about you guys but UPS here insists that all items like that be double boxed yet they take them with no problems from resellers.

Life ain't fair.

Well retailers give UPS big business. There not going to say no to a retailer no matter what.

Yep he who has the bucks................

Why would UPS care who is paying what? As in, double boxing something won't make a difference in revenue to them... they simply don't want to deal with 50 random people everyday who had a damaged item, which could have been avoided by another box or something. If anything, it could hurt them if people bought insurance on it or they automatically included insurance for up to a certain amount.

The difference as I said in a post above between retailers and consumers is that retailers do tons of this on a daily basis and know what will have an issue. For many consumers, it's something they do once a year, they're not really as accustomed to the process as the retailer.

Yea, most LCDs are shipped/sold in thin boxes just barely big enough for the panel - when I got my Dell E207WFP it was packed in a box that was big enough for at least two LCDs. It had an upper part where the documentation and base was, and then a lower part with the display. There was about 6 inches between the screen and the top/bottom of the box, and 3-4" on each side.

Because in most cases retail packaging is excellent. They ship from the manufacturer, to warehouses, to retailers, to you, all in the same box. They are packaged to withstand all of this transit.

I've ordered two LCD monitors and a 32" LCD TV from Newegg, as well as 8 or so cases from them. Every one of them was sent in their original packaging and not a one has ever arrived with damage.
