I live in VA. I enjoy pumping my own gas.

Ahh, fantastic, a VA person bashing NJ. Can you tell I'm used to these arguments from my stint in VA? 🙂

NJ gas is as cheap if not cheaper then VA gas, I can say that.

Please you're 'stint' was in Blacksburg! What did you do for fun? go to West Virginia? As I mentioned before, the rest of the state is quite nice and I've enjoyed my first year living in NoVa.

I could care less about pumping gas but I went to Jersey for several baseball tournaments throughout the state (grew up in central NY) and was not impressed. Jersey people can defend themselves all they want but the truth hurts 🙂

I will remember you this weekend as I sit on a lovely open beach in a specific location which will remain undisclosed other than the fact that it's in NJ.

For the strip clubs, yeah ... 🙂

A good bit of the people I know from school are from the NoVa area, and I've spent a decent amount of time up there. Really the only time I spent arguing about this point was when VA people said that NJ sucks. Obviously NJ might have some shady parts that equate to Southwest Virginia, but that doesn't call for a blanket statement.

I used to drive between Charlottesville, VA and New York City several times, and I found that the gas price in VA is cheaper than in NJ.

damn right! we got nice sh!t here!

besides, its not really "the truth" thats being thrown around here. its all just opinion...there tend to be two types of people from jersey: those that are fiercly proud of it and those that want out more than anything else.

belmar?

I can't believe he's bashing NJ when he's from VA.

Why pump your own gas when you don't need to ? I'd rather let some lacky fill up my gas tank than go out in freezing weather to pump my own gas.

This used to be true, especially back in the day when I filled up for 0.87/gallon in Roanoke, VA ...

Now, NJ is generally even or cheaper.

Nope. Head further south. Belmar is nice, but a little too crowded (and far) for my tastes. I used to spend a lot of time in Avon and Bradley when I was seeing a girl up there.

This place is probably NJ's best-kept secret, although word is getting out, which is why I'm keeping my trap shut. Don't need to tell a potential 100k people about it 🙂

In my experience Virginians generally spend a good deal of their time bashing NJ 🙂

Perhaps it has to do with the fact that one of their biggest imports is NJ's trash?

They want to be Washington D.C. 🙂

Winchester ... used to stop there all the time off I-81 at Wendys to get food on my trips between NJ/VA.

LoL the gas prices in DC /Va are horrendous, roads are all crappy, Traffic up the Wazoo, the only thing they got going for them are cheap home prices outside of northern VA/DC area. That's about it.

And I wonder why everyone brings up the notion of pumping your own gas.

We ( New Jerseyans ) don't need to pump gas. Every station is full service. Get that ? Full Service. Since when did people start complaining about full service. Why go out in a rain or cold to pump your own gas, when there is an attendant that does it for you.

Do you get your jollies off of pumping your own gas ?

Are you jealous that you have to pay for full service ?

Apparently the rest of the country just likes sniffing gas 🙂

NEWSFLASH: 48 STATES ADDICTED TO SNIFFING GAS - ONLY NJ AND OREGON RESIDENTS NOT AFFECTED (Film at 11)

Nobody rags on Oregon for their can't-pump-your-own-gas law 🙂

Fantastic. I'm smug that I can sit on my ass and the gas is still cheaper than Illinois 🙂

Hm.. last time I checked, VA roads are really well kept.. much better than the ones I had to drive on in NJ and NY. Traffic in VA? Ha, get outside of NoVa and then find some traffic for me. VA gas prices aren't bad, only a few cents more than NJ.. nowhere near the prices on the west coast.

And yes, I do get my jollies off of pumping my own gas. It's nice to have full control, to get out and stretch, and gasoline fights are killer fun.

In a full service in NJ, should I give the tip?

I never have.

One time I went the wrong way into a gas station and the guy told me to turn around and come back in the other way because it's "one way only". I said ya right, and left. I hate dirty Jersey.

If you look at their cars in Jersey, 90% have a ding or scrape of some sort

I don't understand this. It still costs less. If NJ can have full service for less than other states charge for self serve, what is the big secret NJ ins't letting out? Maybe there's some sort of underground deal.

As far as $0.10/gallon difference. I'd say that's pretty significant.
