Why does netstat show people are connected to me?

When I open a dos window and type in "netstat" it shows up the ip's that are connected to me. Some are common ads like "aol.ads.88... " etc. but some are just plain number ip's, and other weird ones with some odd letters and such. Is this normal? Does it sound like i have some intruders? If so, how can i close these connections? Thanks

ZoneAlarm is a software firewall. It's designed to allow you to restrict all TCP/IP (internet) access in/out of your computer.

The reason for all the connections is almost certainly due to something you are doing. aol.ads.88... is probably AOL Instant Messenger downloading new Ads, ect.

One of them ends in kscable.com... why would that be connected to me? I've never gone to a site of theirs or anything

WEll, my router is a built in firewall. Its a linksys. I figured that was enough... geez setlle down

My understanding is, a router will stop incoming traffic, it wont't stop outgoing from a trojan. That is why I have both.

Well, it's one of the reasons, I also needed to share a cable modem amoung three computers.

I ran that program and thrashed my dial up. Seems one of the spyware programs was acting as a proxy and when I deleted the program I couldn't connect to the internet anymore. I had to uninstall and reinstall everything in my network settings.

hey i dl'ed zone alarm, and when i check my netstats, there are still a few ip's connected to me. Is this bad, or is that just normal to have a few? Can i disconnect these connections if i don't want them?
