Is it because when I set up my cable modem with Cox they recorded the MAC address of my pc?

But basically the thing is I have to use my primary computers MAC as the WAN mac for my router. Also, if I ever try to plug another computer directly into the cable modem it wont work because it has a different MAC than my main PC.

Im just curious why this is.

Thanks.

You may have been allowed only 1 ip address. This ip address is associated with a mac address which is remembered by your cable modem. It takes awhile for the cable modem to "forget" this. What you can do is reset your cable modem (using a ball point pen or sharp object)....it's usually the little button.

Exact steps:
1) Use/set new mac address in router. You could plug in a different computer here too as an alternative action.
2) Reset cable modem using pen.

Enjoy.

oh...and...some ISPs delegate more than 1 ip address. Mine gives 3 for example.
