Does the same happen when you are playing under d3d? Also, try changing resolution and see if that helps any, but I doubt it.

I think maybe there is a FSAA bug in the CAT3.6 for CS, I'm not sure... anyone else can confirm this?

Thats Half-Life old Quake 2 engine. You'll notice a difference with and without AA. Buddy your playing a game made in 1999, its gonna look ugly.

I think you need to play in 32 bit color for AA to work. Do you have -32bpp added to your launch shortcut?

LMAO...Tabb nailed it...the problem is you're playing Counter Strike! Get an old 15" monitor to play it on...that might help :D

umm, tabb was ignorant enough to make a comment like that, and you're even more ignorant to hop on his ignorant band wagon. thank god there are people like old fart that knows what they're talking about instead of making useless comments.

That's a substantial difference. But is the default color setting of HL really 16bpp? If it is then I have been playing all these years with 16bpp, that's funny.

I did not know that HL was 16bpp at default, thought they would have fixed that in some of the previous patches... I didn't notice any change cause I have the 32bpp parameter on my shortcut for a good while, never woulda thought that was the cause, nice one valve.

AA is an enhancement technique that analyzes the colors of pixels around a line, or the whole screen in the case of FSAA, and modifies the colors of nearby pixels to blend the colors and provide the optical illusion of a smoother line. It has nothing to do with what engine is being used. With AA, you should not get jaggies no matter what game you are using.

What do you expect it to do, add it's own new textures and effects?
Of course it looks the same.

Other than enhancements like AA and AF, the video card will only do what the game tells it to do.
And when CS was developed, video cards didn't have things like programmable vertex and pixel shaders.
And the textures had to be much lower detail because the video cards were so much slower and had less RAM.
