I built my pc two years ago and it never really bothered me until now. My room just gets really hot whenever my pc is on. I turn it off and my room gets cool again. My fans are also really really loud. Is there anything I can do to quiet my pc and lower the room temperature.

I run a 1.33 athlon (retail) on a epox 8k7a mobo. I have 2 fans inside (intake and exhaust) plus my powersupply fan. I think my loudest fans are on the athlon and on the via chip (this little sucker is really loud).

Drop me a message if you have any solutions. Thanks.

The parts in your PC generate a certain amount of heat. That's unavoidable. You can either concentrate that heat in the computer case (bad) or disperse it throughout the room (good.)

2 years ago huh?... heh have you opened up your case lately? Maybe its time to dust it a bit.. might help with the heat.. :p

kinda of a related question here... say if i had a small case that got pretty hot (like a micro-atx case), and then i took out all the stuff and put it into a antec 4-bay towers with lots of fans. would my room still be the same temp or would it be cooler?

You could try unlocking the mulitplier with a pencil and lowering the CPU speed in order to undervolt so that you can cut down on the heat output or just build an entire machine around the idea of cool running in mind. I would start with a Pentium 3 or Celeron based on the Tualatin core, or if you don't care about speed, a VIA based chip where you could even run the CPU without a fan on the heatsink.

Another choice is to use an air conditioner in the room with the PC. For a window type, I recommend a Panasonic unit. They have nifty features like automatic swivelling fans and remote control as well as programmable temps. If you have a ghey window like my sideways sliding type that a window A/C won't fit too well, you could try a portable air conditioner where the exhaust is ducted through a hose to the out of doors. Simple physics here I believe.
The components are going to generate the same amount of heat, no matter what case they're in. Heck, they'll generate the same amount of heat with or without a heatsink. A heatsink just affords a chip the luxury of continued function - heat will build up in the chip otherwise, and kill it, which makes processing very difficult. ;)
But anyway, a bigger case with more fans will simply move the heat around differently. The heat can't all stay in the computer, same as it can't stay in the individual chips. An air conditioner will allow you to move that heat out of the room.

As for computers heating the room, try two high-power PC's.

In this room, there are two Tbred CPU's, almost 1.8GB of RAM, 3 optical drives, and 6 7200rpm hard drives. All in a room, 9ft x 12ft, insulated on all walls. These things raise the temp nearly 10F above the temperature of the surrounding rooms.

a bigass monitor will heat up a room faster than most computers. Turn off the monitor when you leave the computer unattended
