I just got a 9600 XT and it works great with most games (call of duty, RtCw, UT2K3, Vice City) but when I try to play Rise of Nations or C&C Generals it freezes. The main men works in RoN but it stops in the actual combat part. And Generals stops a couple of seconds after the main menu comes up. I got the newest ME drivers from ATI.com but that didn't help. I have a ECS k7s5a (sis 735 chipset) board with Athlon XP 1900+ 1.6ghz ,256 DDR RAM, SBlive 5.1, Windows ME, no overclocking. Please Help.

If you have upgraded your videocard from anything other then another ATI card then you hafta format to fix this problem if this problem doesn?t get fixed with a format then take not that Windows ME is no longer supported and if a game like C&C Generals or rise of nations with an ATI 9600XT freezes on that platform then its very unlikely that the ATI driver team would bother fixing this problem when there are people with windows XP that are having other problems to tend too.

Your one of a few gamers still using windows 98/Me most of us have moved on to WindowsXP for obvious reasons, one of those reasons your experiencing "right now"

My best advice to you is seek out a copy of Win XP Pro and never use windows 98/Me ever again !

And if you cant get windows XP windows 2000 is the next best thing.

My old card was an old Nvidia GeForce2 MX/440. I'll try to get my hands on a copy of XP as soon as possible.

Befor you go to all the trouble of formatting and whatever you may want to try Driver Cleaner
And fully uninstall all old Nvidia drivers that are left behind in Cab files then install the ATI drivers and update to DX9, The latest version is DX9.0c .. i think

Just some other ideas :) if your interested.

Its not his OS ! We all know its not his OS, whether its Win 98,98se,me, these are all supported. Im having a similar problem with Lord of the Rings, Return.. and NBA Live 2004, with my new Gforce fx5600. I did everything u can possibly think of to no avail. I narrowed down the problem to 3 things: 1) CPU 2) Moboard and 3) Vid card (defective?). Currently im using my trusty, ever reliable GForce3ti200, which still does the job for me, name a game and it runs beautifully. There's something about the higher memory cards that seem to demand more out of the system. But believe me its not the OS. I know a lot of people with XP that have similar problems.
