Why does my bios and cpu-z show 1600mhz on my Q6600?

I just updated my computer with the specs below. Why does my bios show 266x9 and the same thing in cpu-z. If I right click on my computer it shows 2.4ghz. I guess I have enjoyed my last overclock of my opteron so long I am out of the loop. I saw all of this just as I was trying to get up to speed on info so I could overclock this puppy.

Well after a search of the internet it appears that it is speedstep. I had to disable it in the bios. I then had to manually change the multiplier from 6 to 9. So I am good to go.

is there any disadvantage to having speedstep on. I clocked my Q6600 to 333x9 (3GHz) and notice CPUz alternating between 2 (333x6) and 3Ghz

There is a sticky at the top of this forum that tells you all of this information, you didn't need to research.
