Why does milk come in plastic bottles instead of the TetraPak?

I find that milk keeps longer in plastic bottles. Since as a single guy living alone I don't consume it very quickly, I seek out plastic bottles.

Yeah, I'm not sure the plastic actually imparts taste, but I do know the cheaper milk contained in them varies too much in taste for me, and usually is not a good tasting milk. I have been buying the Horizons milk for quite awhile now, bad thing is approximately $5/gal, but it does have a very nice taste (even the skim & 1%). It is packaged in the cartons with the little plastic spouts.

I grew up on milk in TetraPak so moving here and getting the plastic taste was a shock.
The Horizon milk ownz but the price is just ridiculous.

hm i just read up on it, and not once did i hear one of the pro's of it was it's natural test, but more it's long shelf life. As much processing as it has to go through to survive 6 months without refridgeration, i really have to wonder what it tastes like.

Milk can hardly go 6 hours without refridgeration, let alone 6 months.... Dunno what you were reading. :p

It could be done by using radioactive radiation. I'm not sure it's legal here. Sometimes I wonder if it isn't. I had an opened box of apple pie that looked fresh after 6 months in the fridge. :disgust:

?We can now tap the western and north-eastern markets for our products as the shelf life of milk has dramatically increased from 10 hours to four months due to tetrapak containers,?

The tetrapak variety has been processed so that the milk retains its quality for up to 6 months without refrigeration

Do i need to find more?

There is a brand of milk (I think "Parmalat"?) that is found in the non-refrigerated section at the grocery store, it can keep at room temperature for quite awhile until it's opened.

No you don't but that is not the normal procedure for milk in TetraPak.
TetraPak > Platic containers.

There is shelf stable milk out there.
