Why does LinkedIn think it is OK to ask for my gmail password?

I am trying to set up a LinkedIn account, and they are actually asking for my gmail password.

Are they ****ing crazy?

Or am I just out of touch?

It's probably some way of adding contacts so they get spam from LinkedIn so feel free to do it if you want to piss off your friends. 😛

Ya, they find who you have e-mails from and if those people are on LinkedIn, they will tell you. That's how Facebook works anyway.

Truth is, both companies could be wiped off the face of the Earth and I could care less. That goes for text messaging also.

Well, that explains why an ex of mine sent me an invite from LinkedIn.

I actually contacted LinkedIn's admin and told them they spammed my inbox b/c there was no way the ex did it personally. I went back and fourth with this guy who denied it was initiated by LinkedIn, but now... I think what the OP is referring to is what happened and the guy at LinkedIn knew that but didn't admit it.

hmm, I had no idea how this worked, so when I got emails from LinkedIn saying that one of my business contacts wanted to be addded to my 'network' or whatever, I signed up to be polite. F them.

Edit: I didn't give them any of my email info, so hopefully this didn't happen to any of my contacts.

If I entered my LinkedIn password (if I had a LinkedIn), how would that get them access to my Gmail? That doesn't make any sense at all.

Stupid, but convenient. Ideally you should use a separate password for every site/service, but there's no way you'd be able to remember them all. Most probably have one or two passwords that they use for everything.

That's great. For us mere humans, remembering 20+ passwords made up of 8 or more random characters (upper and lower case + special characters) and numbers isn't as easy.
