What kind of question is that??

They are a product of the Soviet Union. That is still not very far behind us.

When an opinion is formed, it is difficult to be broken.

That and they are ugly as sin.

If Lada is a car company as that photo implies, they don't have a bad reputation in the US. They have NO reputation at all in the US. How many Americans have ever even heard of a Lada vehicle? Maybe 3%?

Probably closer to .03%

Well I'm Canadian and I've seen those Nivas driving around on numerous occasions.

Admittedly, I'm pretty car-concious. So who knows how many normally notice...

Well, call me pompous, but I tend to consider myself to be pretty observant and fairly aware of things like US car brands, and I have never seen. nor heard of a lada before this post. I have lived on both coasts of the US.

Canda is the US now? Just because they're in Canada doesn't mean they're in the US. Were they ever even imported into the US?

They made some of the best cars available in Eastern Europe in the 1970-80s'.
The Niva is still used by some police/army forces in Europe. It's cheap and relatively durable.
Their new models look very different:

Lada Revolution
Lada Roadster

Even today, lots of Lada tuning/ricing groups exist, Lada still has a sizeable fanbase here.

Never heard of the car or seen one and I'm 37. From the photo it looks like a 4WD Chevette! ;)

I've heard of them, and I'd consider one. From what I remember, they even come with a manual crank, so that you can start them on a dead battery without a jump, or push.

Now that's good engineering.

yeah, IIRC a lot of the (eariler.. they discontinued it) Lada's came with a manual fuel pump and crank, so you could start the car under failure mode
