Why does iTunes not monitor the specified music folder for changes??

This has to be the single most annoying thing I have had to experience in recent times.

My GF's sister has just got an iPod (spare the "iPod sucks there are better" because I know, but you try telling that to a 13 year old girl, iPods are "cool" and there is nothing you can say to them to change that) and I thought "oh I know, i'll point iTunes to the music directory and any new tracks put there will be automatically transferred to the iPod"...but that doesn't work

Anyone know a way to get this to work, because that will be one headache gone!

She's been on about getting one since Christmas 2003, and I've been trying for a year to persuade her otherwise, but in the end I just gave up and now it's shut her up a little!

I still think they suck, and iTunes is terrible from what I've seen so far!

use Ephpod. I'm 99% sure it has a sync option, and because it's not iTunes, it probably works :)

Yeah I know how it is, I've actually recommended the ipod (though only once, and you'd really have to dig through the search feature) when someone was asking which player for their ditzy g/f or daughter or something, I forget.

loki8481, that's the bit of software I remember being recommended before, couldn't remember the name of it! I'll check it out and see if it works :)

all you have to do is choose the add folder to library command and choose the itunes directory. then it will update any songs in there.
