Why does it take so long to credit my VISA for a return?

I returned a Dell Latitude D600 and a Dell representative said my account was credited on Monday. I am wondering why it takes so long for a credit to show up on my account - if this is all electronic, it should be instantaneous, right?

Does anyone have any insight into this? I need to order a new computer, but my card has a low limit so I cannot purchase until the Dell credit shows up.

No, it would not be instantaneous, it would take at least 24 hours, at most ...who knows!

wtf this is pissing me off. I should never have purchased that Latitude D600. Buzzing power adapter, awful keyboard...

The CSRs at the bank that issued my credit card say they don't know. They said "maybe by the end of the week" or "check back next week"

They should say up to 30 days but usually it takes 3 business days.

in my experience, dell takes about 30 days after the date of your return for you to actually get a credit on your bill.

That does not make me happy. It's not a problem if my bank bills me, because I can just contest the charge and they'll differ it for 30 days (by which time Dell should have issued the credit).

I just don't want that $1700 on my account and there seems like no good reason it can't be reversed easily, since everything is done electronically.

It doesn't matter if it's done electronically or not.

Did you pay for it using a DEBIT/CHECK or real credit card?

I'm dealing with this right now as well. I returned some Cat5e Keystones...$82-worth.

They receieved it last Friday. I've yet to see the credit show up on my CC. I emailed them a few minutes ago; hopefully, I hear from them by COB tomorrow and we can wrap this up this week.

$82 is a lot of money, darnit! :|

real credit card (I never use Debit cards online - that's asking for trouble IMO. I don't want anyone having dirrect access to my checking account, or gaining access through a stolen #).
