why does it show that im connected at 115,00 bps with a modem?

i got a new hard drive yesterday (maxtor 25 gig) and now it shows that im at 115,00 bps

with my old one (seagate 4.3) i was at around 44,000

is there a way to correct it?

Hee, quite interesting 😛 When I was using Win2k, the system tray always said I connected at 115kb/s.....odd huh?

Did you re-install Windows? If you did, you probably just have the wrong drivers installed for you modem. If the modem is working fine though, there's no need to really worry about it, in fact some websites used to recommend(erroneously) that modem users use that setting for maximum speed.

If you dont have the right inf file for your modem, Windows does not know how to properly read the connect string, so it reports the DTE speed instead. Reinstall the proper drivers for your modem.

that used to happen to me too... and i could swear i had the right drivers. oh well... back then... as long as i was connected, i was happy. 😛

115,000 bps is your port speed (DTE). Try updating your modem drivers.

** Oops oldfart said the same thing.
