Why does it cost so much to replace a watch battery?

This watch place wants to charge me $30.99 and they have to ship it off.

Batteries plus wants $10.96

link sells a pack of four for $4.75.

There's another place that sells them in bulk for 0.44 each.

I popped open the back of the watch and there's a sticker that says "When replacing battery, short circuit (AC) with +." er... what? I guess I'll take it to Batteries plus. They did mention that the watch won't be waterproof anymore after replacing the battery. Which, I didn't really care since it has cow skin strap, I don't take it into the shower.

Ship it off to replace a battery? Are you sure they aren't shipping it off to have it re-sealed or something?

As far as the other part, I'm not really sure. Is there a terminal labeled AC or something? I wonder why you would have to do something like that.

I think you're right. If I send it off, they'll probably reseal it to make it water-proof.

The lable is very tiny with 5 different languages, the watch itself have a lot of Japanese writings, I'm going to get a magnifying glass to read it more carefully.

Oh, another reason I don't want to send this off is that this is a high quality LV replica made in Japan. 😱

DIY is the way to go for most smaller items, other wise be prepare to bend over for service cost.

Watches have batteries? I don't see how they could fit in there with all the gears and springs in the way. 😛

LV as in louis vuitton? so it's a knock off? make sure the watch places know its a knockoff because some batteries may be different from the original

As if they wouldn't see the battery when they opened it? Was this a serious post?

My POS Casio watch has instructions for grounding + to the case or some similar thing to activate the battery.

Costs me about $10-$15 at a watch shop including the battery.

My Tag cost me $15 to have the battery replaced at a B&M jeweler...where the hell are you taking / sending it that it's $100?

They don't re-install a new seal? I thought that most watch-battery-replacement outfits (that were up-and-up) would do that for you. At least when I got my water-resistant watch battery replaced, they did for me.
