Why does IE keep asking me if i want to "reconnect" ?

Hi. first post in the "networking" section.

Everytime i open IE6, i get a popup that says it can't connect and if i want to "try again" or "work offline". i have to hit "try again" EVERY TIME i open explorer and it's starting to get annoying. anyone know what causes this ? i've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the network card but no luck. i'm running Win XP Pro and connect through a Linksys router. any input is appreciated. thanks.
 
open IE

goto menu at the top then:
tool > internet options > click on the connections tab > then click on "never dial a connection" > ok then restart IE and see if this works.
