..that's why I don't watch tv..rent/buy what really interests me on dvd. The crap on tv and formula flicks need to go away. But they make lots of money because too many people are willing to patronize them..so what do ya do..

but it does. it puts out movies for different demographics. not all movies are fast 2 furious type. if you'd kept up with movies you'd know this. there are blockbusters of course and those are marketed towards general audience. but even then sometimes you get something good like saving private ryan or some such movie. there are independent movies and those made by miramax and such. and of course there are ones marketed towards young adults. the more adult movies don't generally get blockbuster sales because older people don't put their money where their mouths are. thats jsut how it is. and actually no, movies aren't getting more stupid. more screens/more methods of distribution = more market space for movies of all types. don't let nostolgia blind you, 99.9% of old movies are total sh*t.

there are tons of movies like this. They don't make as much money so you don't hear about them as often.

There are plenty smart and intelligent films made. My favorite example is Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.

If you only go watch big blockbuster releases then sure, you'll be out there wondering why hollywood only makes crap. But the movies that are provocative, artistic, emotional, what have you are out there.. you just gotta find em (hint : they dont advertise as heavily as episode III or Kingdom of heaven etc). Also : if you can't enjoy the entertainment value of movies why pay to watch them? I watched movies i knew wouldn't be great just because i wanted to go out with friends and do something.
