Ever heard of the exchange rate? The Canadian dollar is only about $0.60 US.

canada is suck
heh rambus should move to canada!
hehe

first off, you better watch your mouth..

second, I wonder what would happen if they did move to Canada, or did originate in Canada?

third, hardware costs more here then in the states, probably because there are fewer computer store outlets here then in the US.. competition is a good thing in this case.

the Canadian stores also have to pay more to get the same hardware, probably simply becuase they are Canadian, and they CAN charge more (how large a percentage of people actually buy computer hardware from the states?).

doesn't matter too much, I now order almost everything I can online.. I finally figured everything out on how to do it (Canada Post rules).

What are you talking about? It usually doesn't after you take into account exchange. Even if it does, its a minimal difference.

I find after exchange rate and taxes the hardware is about 5% more which can add up. I live in ontarion and buy my hardware from inside canada but out of province to dodge the pst.

Yeah it's always a little more even after making the conversion to US $$. The trick is to order online from somewhere outside your province to save PST. It doesn't seem like much (7 or 8%) but it's worth it when you're spending a couple hundred dollars.

So, nef every second message and you'll be Platinum in no time! ;)

Oops... I think I just did. :p

More on topic... things really do cost more up here. TAKING INTO ACCOUNT DOLLAR EXCHANGE. (I can't believe some people think we're that stupid...)
$100US = ~$155 CDN. Then we get taxes on top of that.
But that $100US Geforce MX can cost more like $195CDN here before taxes. Do the math... That costs more.

Most likely it's because of our different economies... the US can get better prices because they'll sell 10x more there than they will in Canada, simply because of the population. Gotta' love Consumer-Based-Economies... until the big crash that'll come from the indebtedness that also comes from it.

damn, dont take it so seriously when i said cananda sucks, sorry I forgot to add a wink :)

but that was a pretty harsh insult! hehehe.. I shall punish you, by sending the company RAMBUS to your country, to forever anger your citizens!

I can't believe some people think we're that stupid...

I know, sometimes I wonder if that CBC show This Hour Has 22 Minutes is actually real or not.. normally I just assume that it is set up, but now I'm not so sure...

talking about economies, I think Canada can do better when there is a depression, becuase of the way our whole country is set up. We can run on no gas alot easier!

why do I say this? well the government is setup to seize control of things alot better then the US, because alot more money from each taxpayer goes to the government, rather then private organizations (healthcare etc etc). the government can then spend this money on things that will stimulate the economy (and will be alot more effective then when funding private organizations for basic services).

but there are alot more things that I haven't covered that contribute more to this theory, becuase I cannot currently remember what they were (it was a while ago when I discussed that).

jackc20_00 you think Canada bad, have you tried the UK?

Usually (their are rare exceptions) if a product costs $50 US Dollars, instead of being charged the equiverlent in UK Pounds, which is about £35 pounds, we get charged £50 i.e they just change the currency symbol, despite the fact that one pound is worth more than one dollar!

And thats just the price, then their is a tax 'value added tax' called VAT which is another 17.5% on top of that price!

This sucks! :disgust:

One reason:

Just like most European countries, Canada has V.A.T. (value added tax) on most purchases.

Germany and the Netherlands have the same thing (16% of the total cost is VAT)

U.S. does not have VAT, just sales tax, which varies state to state.

Hope this helps :)
