why does gun go up when it has been fired?

I do believe there are some exceptions to this rule. If memory serves, a World War II BAR would go down when fired. I don't know why.

its because the recoil lateral force is directed along a line above the rifle butt, therefore your shoulder pushes 'forward and up' this pushes the rifle upwards in rifles where the butt is lower than the line of the barrel.

the force from the bullet is applied off centre, meaning the opposite force is converted into a rotational force.

as you are holding onto the gun tightly the rotational force is moved along to the next loose joint (elbow) which bends it, moving the gun upwards.

the gun is scared of the bullets and tries to get away
