why does Gmail do such a piss poor job of forwarding attachments?

Why is it that when a picture or video is attached to the Email and you try to forward it with Gmail, that the attachment gets taken out of the Email?

Anyone else running into this problem?

Gmail doesn?t currently offer the ability to attach images inline, because we don?t support HTML formatting. Also, we don't offer the ability to forward attachments with HTML formatting at this time.

I and many others I know have had plenty of pictures stripped that were in the email via HTML rather than sent as an attachment

I've read some people have luck by going to https://gmail.google.com rather than http://gmail.google.com but I don't know why that should make a difference
