why does Firefox Mobile feel so much slicker (does it?) than Chrome?

For me, it does, and switching has improved my Android Experience.

As far as I can tell it boils down to the following:

  • no gaudy tab animations
  • limited 'pop in' when rendering a page
  • 'new tab' page is (more) lightweight / does not have 'fancy' render effects (like the Chrome's 'fade-in')

    BUT MOST OF ALL

  • the 'page loading bar' in Firefox 'fills', whereas in Chrome it '

here's a video I made of the two.
It's not the most obvious in this video, other times the hitching on Chrome is much more noticeable.

Firefox Mobile has been a bit smoother and overall nicer than Chrome Mobile for a while. If mobile websites didn't often detect Webkit and thus appear borked on Firefox Mobile, I'd never touch Chrome over Firefox. Especially since I can run things like Ghostery.

However, I still find Opera Mobile to be the most usable browser simply because it's the only major browser that can get text reflow (wrapping) right every single time. I don't know why everyone else (except for the Android Browser - not Chrome) can't do that right.

Firefox mobile is nice with ad block plus but half of the websites video playback doesn't work on Firefox mobile but it works on chrome (vimeo as an example). Also, the last time I tried, it seemed to crash a bit more and took longer to start than chrome.

If they fix video playback I might try it again.

I don't notice the difference to be honest. I prefer Firefox because of extensions and the features it has.

I always thought mobile Firefox was a bit of a pig. That's coming from ultra light browsers which were my preference on the cheap tablets I used. I use Firefox for the extensibility. I will not use Chrome on any platform, for any reason.

I use Firefox since it syncs with my Desktop -- and I refuse to use Chrome on my laptop simply because it's a powerhog.
