Why does "Fat Chance" and "Slim Chance" mean the same thing?

You know, isn't the English language rather stupid??

I mean, the grammar is messed up with so many "exceptions to the rule". There are even different versions of English spelling and bloody Microsoft programs have yet to sort this out properly. English is one of the most inaccurate languages in the world - this is a fact. So many words have many different meanings, and subtleties and vague notions are rampant in this silly language.

In fact if it wasn't for the English langauge, you wouldn't find sneaky lawyers making so much money and you wouldn't see the current American/British judicial system as such a farce.

They say that Mandarin is the most accurate, straight-to-the-point language in the world. I propose that the whole world drop English as an international language and adopt Mandarin. That would make the world a lightly better place for sure.

English sucks.

Like why are shipments sent by car and cargo sent by ship?

why do you drive on the parkway and park on the driveway? How come your feet smell but your nose runs?

I like English. It might not be the best, but we're not going to change, because it is what I and my fellow Americans have been using since day 1. We as an American people are resistant to change, we do things our own way even though it might not be efficent. That is what makes us Americans. It might not seem like such a great thing, but this is EXACTLY the reason we have the highest concentration of millionaires in the world! Because we do what we want the way we want to do it.

Can't answer your question,

Logic would say a Fat Chance would mean the odds are good and a slim chance would mean the odds are bad. But somehow because Fat = Bad, a fat chance = a bad chance. Confusing language, gotta love it :).

i think when people say "fat chance" it is meant to be sarcastic, thus its parallel meaning with slim chance. another thing, why do you sit on stands?

and

did you desert your dessert in the desert?

<< Fat chance is more sarcastic and slim chance is correct. >>

I agree with this explanation.
