Why does everyone take offense to everything?

I was reading the thread entitled "Interesting view..this says it all.". If you havent read it, someone posted a letter. The letter showed some examples of flags being taken down, "god bless america" being taken off a school, etc. Because some people might find those messages offensive. The author of the letter, found these actions offensive, and wrote a letter about it.

The letter is followed by a couple dozen posts, most of which are people expressing that they found the letter offensive, or that they found one of the previous posts offensive. There seems to be a lot of people who are offended by the "PC police" who are trying to keep everyone from being offended at all.

People have to realize that not everyone will agree with you. Just because someone doesn't share your beliefs, doesn't mean that they have a personal issue with you. Everyone will never agree on everything, feeling attacked and hurt everytime someone disagrees with you doesn't help anything. If someone disagrees with you, 95% of the time, you might as well ignore it and let them have thier opinion. Honestly, do you really think everyone who disagrees with you hates you, or that by insulting them you'll get them to change thier viewpoint?

Hope I didn't offend anyone.

Just because I feel a compulsive need to defend my post in the thread notfred mentioned...
I just want to say that I should have perhaps been a little more specific in my post. I meant it merely as a means of correcting the innaccurate information in the leter that was poster at the start of the thread. I like to think that I was able to avoid insulting anyone, though I understand that my views are a little unorthodox and can be delivered with all the subtlty of a 20-lb sledgehammer. That, and the whole "atheist/agnostic = un-American" thing was worn thin back when McCarthy was trying it.

Your lack of seeing other peoples' points of view offends me, even though I agree with you;)

notfred: you couldn't be more right. Unfortunately, this is how people are taught to think these days. People are afraid to express how they feel because they might offend a particular group or person.

Unfortunately, the ones who are willing to express their views are considered extremists (whether liberal, conservative, religious, or otherwise). Oh what fun times to live in.
