Why does everyone hate fleabay? I've never done business with them, but my dad has, and his shipment worked out fine. Is half.com any better?

Some people may not like Fleabay because it's a spawning grown for criminal activities. You may not realize this but people deceieve each other left and right. And you know what the sad part is? Fleabay does not even want to take part in it nor take action for fraud. All they say is "Contact the person again.". In the end, the person who defrauded you gets to keep the cash, and you get a compensation of $200 (minus $25 processing fee) by their insurance company. In the world of eGay, crime DOES pay.

Actually, I like @bay. I get rid of my old PC hardware easily (for a good price).

1) Eb@y resulted in large amounts of spam for this board. People sticking their stupid auctions in Hot Deals / For Sale/Trade forums.

2) Many sellers, such as those of Playstation 2 units, are viewed as greedy vicious Ferengi who have made getting "the" toy for christmas not a question of IF you can get it, but how MUCH are you willing to pay for it.

Example: My co-worker last year fought on a bid a week before christmas for that stupid PokeMon gameboy thing.. paid over $300 for a friggin gameboy... so his daughter could have the one present she REALLY wanted.

3) Eb@y for the longest time would not protect people at all. Even now, there are tons of shill bidders (people creating 2nd accounts to bid up their own items), and frauds. Eb@y takes a very non-commital attitude and makes it take a LONG time to get any restitution.

4) Stupid bidders. I sell things on there all the time, specifying US ONLY and my shipping method. Undoubtedly, about every 3rd or 4th auction, I get some dumbass from Canada who doesn't think canada is international, or who wants me to ship something other than Airborne Express.
Look, my rules are my rules, don't like it, dont bid. If you want to ASK me to bend the rules, ask BEFOREHAND not after its over.

I buy at egay and have never gotten cheated.
Of course, everything I win though is only about $10.
To avoid temptation of bidding higher than you want to pay, only put one bid on something and don't look at it again, until you get an email that you won.
If you didn't win you still have your money.
You can save a lot of money on egay, but you can waste a lot too.
Unfortunately, most egay shoppers waste money.

I have had tremendous luck with both buying and selling on Eb@y. I certainly feel that most traders are basically honest. I have bought new items at a lot less than retail. I have also sold many items, such as PC parts resulting from upgrades, for money that would have otherwise been lost to me. Yes I have had some problems and irritations, but that is life. I like the concept that one man's trash is another man's treasure.

E-bay is somewhat like aol, in that it is a focal point for all the ignorant masses here on the net.

I like e-bay, i've sold two guitar amps for well over 1000 dollars each and everything went off without a hitch. If you use paypal, it makes things less riskier (for the seller anyway). If you use common sense and go with your instincts, you should be fine. Using escrow services really takes the risk out too.

[/b]EBay[/b] is not responsible for fraud. You do not actually do business with [/b]EBay. As an analogy, think of [/b]EBay[/b] as your local newspaper want-ads. The newspaper is not responsible for any fraud that is committed by the sellers. [/b]EBay[/b] does it's best to counter-act the shill bidding. Think about it, though, how are you supposed to keep tabs on all the hundreds of thousands of users?? How are you supposed to know when shill bidding is occuring?? Are they supposed to monitor every single transaction??

If you are worried about fraud, use an escrow service. That way you send your money to the service. They send you your item. If you don't like it or it's not what you wanted you can send it back and the service will send you back your money.
[/b]EBay[/b] is a freakin' ingenious idea. I wish I had thought of it.

BTW- My wife works for [/b]EBay[/b] in the customer service area, so I get all this crap first hand.

When I think of Eb@y, I think of a HUGE open market auction of Garage Sales. And some words from long ago also come in...'Caveat Emptor', Buyer Beware.

Eb@y is such a black or white thing as well. People either hate it or love it.

My money goes somewhere with a bit more vested interest in seeing my repeat business.

And anybody willing to pay INSANE prices on HOT products that nobody has in stock...Wait a minute, I was about to chastise those people. But I just realized, I do that too!

Oh well.
